On December 8th (the day after Pearl Harbor's anniversary), a P-40 recently restored at the Warbird Museum sufffered engine failure and glided to a hard landing, crashing through a fence and ending up on Taylor road, which runs alongside Sporty's airfield in Batavia, Ohio.  The Warbird Museum spent the last three years rescuing and restoring this plane, and had about 35,000 man hours in it.  The pilot said the engine started shaking and smoke poured out from under the hood and then lost power at 6,500 feet.  He made it to the airport but ran off the end of the runway onto the road.  It looks to be back into the restoration shed.  The pilot says he was unhurt.
