The BBC did an article on Remembrance Day of where the British fell on active duty from WW1 to Afghanistan.  The numbers are telling.  Our generation doesn't know what it's like to loose entire communities at war.  This is not to belittle the sacrifice of our soldiers or any soldiers for that matter.  Take the US fatalities in the Vietnam war, for instance.  The US lost 50,000 men over 20 years, the British lost that many in one day on the Somme.
