During the Nineteenth Century the big guns on land were usually handled by the Navy.  During the Egyption invasian and the Sudan incursions the artillery and machine guns were handled by Great Britain's sailors.  So too in the Boer War, and this account by C.R.N. Burne chronicles that effort as someone who was there and took part.  The British forces were outgunned by the Boers in small arms, but when it came to artillery, no one on earth had mastery of the big guns like Britain's Navy.  You can get this book at Amazon, or for your Kindle .
